South Carolina man charged with DUI after crashing into car wash

Whether the fault is theirs or someone else’s, most drivers will experience a car accident at some point in their lives. Everyone makes mistakes, but when they do, it often raises questions about what caused those mistakes to occur. A common suspicion when someone is involved in a crash is that they may have been guilty of drunk driving. Such was the report during an early morning crash in South Carolina.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. in Travelers Rest, resulted in the driver needing to be extricated from his truck. He had crashed into the side of the downtown car wash after crossing an intersection at Main Street. He was subsequently taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment, although his injuries were not considered to have been life-threatening.

The report suggests that he failed a blood alcohol test which was carried out by the hospital. Officers attending the scene also claimed to have detected a smell of alcohol. In the accused’s vehicle, they allegedly found an open wine bottle as well as an empty Jack Daniels bottle. This does not necessarily mean they had been used recently. However, the find did result in a charge of having an open container within the vehicle. The 29-year-old driver was ultimately charged with drunk driving.

If he is convicted of these charges, he could face fines or even jail time. He may also be required to cover the cost of repairing the car wash. However, as other drivers in South Carolina should note, a charge is by no means a guarantee of a conviction. If you face drunk driving allegations, the support of an attorney could serve you well.
